iii iiiiii~iiiiiiiii
~~~~ " STATE OF COLC~1~0
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Dlrsctor
DATE: September 19, 1989
T0: Dan Mathews
FROM: Dave Berm
RE: Drainage Control Plan - Blue Flame Mine - C-81-053
_ I have reviewed the above-referenced draft submittal, received via FAX, on
September 15, 1989. A finalized drainage control map (blue line) is
forthcoming, according to Jerry Cox, and final approval will be dependent on
the adequacy of that map. Also, I spoke with Jerry Cox this morning (9/19/89;
7:10 a.m.) and relayed the following concerns to him. He will be sending a
revised submittal which addresses these concerns.
Upland Ditches/Road pitches
1. The proposed plan satisfies the minimum requirements of Rules 4.05.3 and
4.03.1 .
2. The roadside ditches will be built to the same specifications as the
upland ditch. Mr. Cox will revise the text to clearly indicate this.
3. Mr. Cox indicated that gradients along the upland ditch will be shallow
enough that erosive flow velocities will not occur. We can verify this
when the map is submitted.
Culverts
1. Sizing is adequate; Mr. Cox has been cautioned regarding the use of half
culverts in high use areas. I suggest a written caution directly to the
operator.
Pond
1. Sizing is adequate, and is probably larger th an needed. The remainder of
the general plan also meets the minimum requirements. Some minor
recommendations follow.
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel. (303) 866.3567
