' -
' accomplished by drilling inclined drill holes from within the
mine portals which would intercept joints and fractures in the
'
area of conce rn above the fan portal .

Concerning relocation, it might be feasible to consider moving
1 the fan to a more protected location and either combining it with
the existing entry and belt portals or possibly ramping up from
'
the lower B seam level with the portal, again, moved to a
' protected location immediately downslope of the existing entry
and belt portals.
1
' With regard to the debris flow chute located between portals, the
major concern is one of safety. Consideration can be given to
' providing for alternative means of access to the mine bench from
a more protected position. Measures directed at arresting and
' storing debris flow events above the mine bench are felt not to
be feasible due to the li mited access and limited space available
t above the bench. It may be possible, however, to consider
t installing a structure which would carry debris flow events past
the upper mine bench w here they ma y be arrested and temporarily
stored on the next two lower bench levels. Such a scheme would
involve taking men and equipment through a short section of
' l li
t
i
hi
h ld th
"
h
h
d t
t
"
unne
ng w
n
c pass
wou roug
a
s
e s
ruc
ure
' designed to extend the debris flow chute beyond the u pper bench.
' Of course, one additional alternative, as long as safe access of
men and equipment can be maintained, is to do nothing and deal
1
1 8
