Observation of the unnamed drainage downgradient of the tailings disposal area revealed
the presence of a clearly defined surface water drainage channel 8-12 feet in width. The
channel was dry at the time of observation and exhibited no evidence of recent flow. No
wetlands or other sensitive environments were noted to be present in the drainage.
The Salazar Reservoir was completely void of water at the time of sampling; however, the
ditch (dimensions 2 feet by 4 feet) from which water is diverted into the reservoir was
flowing appreciably.
Physical measurements including pH, conductivity and temperature were measured and
recorded for each surface water sample location. Physical measurements indicated
increasing trends in Rito Seco surFace water pH, temperature and ~:onductivity at
downstream locations. Sediment composition was visually noted and recorded.
Sediment samples were predominatey composed of light brown sift sand.
Qual Control Samples.
A duplicate of sample BM-SW-02 was collected and designated BM-SW-06 as a quality
control check for the ClP laboratory. An equipment decontamination rinse blank,
designated BM-SW-07, was collected by rinsing sampling equipment with distilled water
and collecting and preserving the water in appropriate containers. Matrix spike and matrbc
spike duplicate volumes were collected from the BM-SW-03 location.
SamRle Corttalners and Documentation
Surface water samples designated for total metals and cyanide analyses were collected
in separate 1-liter polyethylene bottles. Sediment samples designated for total metals and
cyanide analyses were collected in a single 8-0unce glass jar. Surface water samples
were preserved with nitric acid (total metals) and sodium hydroxide (cyanide). All
samples were maintained at approximatey 4°C with ice at all times.
All samples were shipped to Southwest Laboratories of Oklahoma located in Broken
Arrow, Oklahoma via FedF~c on April 27, 1995 under Airbill number 3569962734. All
samples were to be analyzed under Regular Analytical Services (RAS) protocols at low
or environmental concentrations for total metals and cyanide. Case #23473 was
assigned to analyses associated with this SI.
~xoltsau~soenuamnc
-3-
!~ 4 Mme/
