Partial site reclamation was completed in 1998, and perennial
vegetation has become established on the slopes. Pit run gravel material is stockpiled on
the pit floor and has been used sporadically over the years for repair and maintenance of
county roads in the Gateway area. No further mining is anticipated.
The purpose of the extension is to allow removal of the remaining stockpile of gravel.
Preliminary plans have been submitted to BLM for converting portions of the Lumsden
site to a waste transfer station and other uses under an R&PP conveyance. If the
conveyance is approved, the pit floor azea would be utilized for new county facilities.
The free use permit extension is approved subject to the following stipulations:
1. The new expiration date is September 1, 2007. No gravel may be removed from the
site after that date, and no further extensions will be authorized.
2. A final production report shall be submitted showing the tons or cubic yazds of
stockpiled material which was removed from the site.
3. If the R&PP application is withdrawn or rejected, full reclamation of the Lumsden site
shall be completed in the fall of 2007. Reclamation procedures and other requirements in
the free use permit aze still applicable.
4. In accordance with free use requirements, the gravel material may not be bartered or
sold.
