The permits, and mining and
reclamation plans were updated in 1996; however, certain changes have taken
place since that time, and this letter serves to document changes to the
approved plans and to address work to be accomplished in 1998. A joint
inspection was conducted of the 2 Road, 4 Road (Baxter), 13 Road, and 21 Road
sites on the same day by BLM, Mesa County, and the Division of Minerals and
Geology (Steve Shuey).
1. 2 Road Site - The inspection on 1-22-98 revealed that there has been some
rew growth of native grasses and rabbit brush in recent years in the area that
was previously devoid of perennial vegetation. It was agreed by all parties
that the site should not be redisCUrbed for additional seeding. Therefore,
the BLM is releasing Me.;a County from further reclamation liability under the
free use permit.
2. Kinder Pit - The reclamation work performed in the fall of 1°. 97 is
considered to be very satisfactory and we appreciate the efforts that Mesa
County made. Over the next two years, BLM will evaluate revegetation success
before considering release of the reclamation liability. The site has now
been converted into a community pit for selling the remaining stockpiles of
gravel, boulders, and f:~.ll material to the general public.
3. A.2 Road Site - This; permit expired in 1997 and is considered a high
priority for final recleunation in 1996. Much of the recontouring will be done
in the summer, and the site will be ripped and seeded in the fall. All work
will be done in accordance with the approved reclamation elan.
M'83.2(~ 4. Lumsden Canyon Site - The disturbed slopes above the pit floor were
recontoured and ripped in 1997, but not seeded. This is a high pr-ority site
for 1999, and it was agreed that the slopes will be ripped again, and then
seeded, in the fall of this year.
5. Wright Draw Site - A significant portion of the stockpile of sand was used
in 1497. However, new sediment washed into the draw and will be excavated and
used to replenish the stockpile. This should provide sufficient material for
at least another year. There are no plans this year for mining reserve areas
P11 and M2 located beneath and adjacent to the roadway. The reclamation plan
had SDECif1Ed that the area denoted as A2 be reclaimed in 1997. Since this
•,~as rot done, it was agreed that this work would be a high Driority for
completing in the fall of 1999.
