All properties included <br />in SUP No. 596 are in the A-2 (Agricultural, minimum 5 acres) Zone District. <br />LOCATION <br />The subject parcels are portions of Sections 34, 35, and 36, Township 20 <br />South, Range 64 West, and portions of Sections 31 and 32, Township 20 <br />South, Range 63 West. The parcels are contiguous and encompass <br />approximately 1,058 acres (see Exhibit 1). <br />BACKGROUND <br />Special Use Permit No. 596 consolidated all lands previously included under <br />SUP 37 and SUP No. 46, portions of lands included under SUP No. 230 and <br />SUP No. 281, and other lands not previously included in special use permits <br />for sand and gravel extraction. Of the 1,058 acres included in SUP No. <br />596, approximately 400 acres were included in the above mentioned special <br />use permits. <br />Actual mining to date has been limited to Valco's Pueblo East Pit (aka <br />Oakleaf Pit) and Thunderbird Lake (created when material was extracted for <br />construction of what is now the Pueblo Memorial Airport).
