B
Surface and Ground Water Monitoring
1. There is no flowing surface water on the areas to be
disturbed. However, the permitted area does include the Alkali
Creek drainage. The mine operations will not undermine either
the adjacent Colorado River nor the Alkali Creek drainages.
Baseline data for the Colorado River and Alkali Creek were
collected in 1983-1984. There will be no mine discharge into
either the Colorado River or Alkali Creek surface streams.
Water discharge from the hydraulic system will be collected and
then decanted off in Sediment Pond A and then rerouted back
into the hydraulic system for reuse.
2. The applicant will conduct monitoring of ground water in a
manner approved by the Division. The ground water monitoring
plan is as follows (4.05.13(1)):
The groundwater monitoring wells are:
OW-3L OW-13
OW-7 OW-14
OW-8 OW-15 (Replaces OW-4L by MR-10,
OW-12 approved 3/92)
These wells are to be sampled on a biannual basis (twice a
year) and samples analyzed for the following parameters:
Ca C03
Mg SOq
Na N03
K Fe
HC03 Cl
SAR Conductivity (lab)
TDS pH (lab)
The following wells have been drilled at the mine site:
OW-1 OW-9 SK-3.75 SK-8A
OW-2 OW-10 SK-3H LO-1
OW-3 OW-12 SK-7
OW-3L OW-13
OW-4L OW-14
OW-7 OW-15
OW-8
Wells OW-1, 2, and 3 are all located on the south side of the
hogback and permit area and have been released from the
monitoring program. Wells OW-3L, 4L, 7, 8, 9 and 10 monitor
the north side of the hogback where the primary disturbance is
estimated to occur. OW-4L was replaced by OW-15 in March 1992
with OMLR approval through MR-10. Wells OW-3L, OW-7, OW-8,
OW-12, OW-13, OW-14 and OW-15 are monitored quarterly for field
parameters and lab tested annually as outlined earlier under
Section III B(2) of this document. Wells OW-9 and OW-10,
_17_
