Uperations Uescription - Hales 2.05.2,L.U5.3i1 <br />A description of the general operations plan for the Apex Ilo. 2 Mine is <br />given in Sectiont.US.Z and t.U6.3 on pages 124-1d1 of the application. <br />The operation is an unoeryround mine removing coal using room and pillar <br />tectuiiques with secondary recovery wittrin the framework established by <br />subsidence control. The expected annual production is 90,000 tons/year. <br />Portals have been placed on the northwest hillside into the Lower <br />Pinnacle seam. A rock slope has been constructed across the fault into <br />the same seam in vault block 2 and the mining will progress around the <br />abandoned Apex ~JO. 1 t•1ine. N second set of rock slopes will be <br />constructeu into fault block 3 into the lone ho. 3 bed. Currently the <br />fault between block 2 and fault block 3 has been intersected out no work <br />rias ueen Done on tiie second set of ruck slopes. Unly the primary plan as <br />uiscussed above is approved. <br />Ilo additional surface disturbance has been proposed. The surface <br />uisturbance encompasses approximately 5.6 acres and includes those <br />structures described in the Operations Plan portion of this document. <br />Although not required by Colorado reyulations, within the Federal <br />keyulations there is a consideration of resource recovery. The Mineral <br />(•lanayement Service of the USGS has reviewed this section of the permit <br />application and it complies with the Federal regulations regarding <br />resource recovery. <br />XV1.
