Gzpf a ~. ~.ui~l i{CS6LRCCS
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Carol:
This letter is in reference to Roger Funston's correspondence dated July 8,
1980, which addressed the Division's position on Utah's request for specific
area exemptions from sediment control.
In reference to the F. pit area as discussed in Wayne Soward's letter of
Ftarch 27, 1980, to Dean Massey and in the June 19t1~ correspondence between Mr.
Funston and Mr. Zimpfer, runoff from this area has been diverted via a diversion
ditch and passes thro~~gh sediment control structures in Johnson and/or No-Name
drainages. Therefore, an exemption is no longer required for the area.
Based on Roger's reply of July 8th, Utah International will conclude: that
small area exemptions have been granted for areas 1, 3, and 5 as identified in
the letter sent to Mr. Dean Massey from Afr. lJayne Sowards dated June 3rd, 1980;
that area 4, identified in the same letter, will no[ require an exemption and is
in compliance with the regulations; and that area 2 requires further evaluation
by your staff before a determination can be made.
Roger requested the following information Eor area 2 in his correspondence
to us of July 8th; the nature of disturbance, erosion hazard, and timetable for
reclamation.
As of this date, the disturbance in question totals 14.3 acres as reported
in Wayne's letter. The disturbance includes about 3 acres on the east side
where topsoil was salvaged but were not otherwise disturbed. This area has had
the topsoil replaced. Approximately another 2 acres along the west side were
mined, recontoured and also have the topsoil replaced on them. Between these
two areas are about 9 acres that have been mined and recontoured but have not
yet been re topsoiled. This area will be re topsoiled yet this year and seeded to
winter wheat. Aland imprinter will be pulled over the surface of the area
after seeding to provide a series of small depressions to hold moisture on site
and retard erosion. The area will be planted to perennial species in the Fall
of 1982.
