LunG
Urvbipn UirK'IUr
During my last inspection of the Southfield Mine, it became appazent that the notifications required by
Section 4.20.2 of the Rules were not current. Because some of the notices indicated mining would not
occur beyond certain dates, and those dates have passed and mining continues, property owners and
residents within the area above and adjacent to the underground workings have not been properly
notified. In order for EFCI to be incompliance with Section 4.20.2, new notices to the property owners
and residents will need to be provided. The new notices should indicate that the previously stated mining
schedule has changed, and include the currently predicted dates of mining, in addition to the other
information required by Section 4.20.2. These notices must be sent to affected property owners and
residents no later than Friday, April 3, 1998. I would recommend that the notices be sent by certified
mail, and that proof of receipt be maintained at the mine office. So that the Division may verify
compliance with the Apri13, 1998 requirement, EFCI should transmit facsimiles of these letters to the
Division by 5:00 p.m. April 3, 1998.
If you have questions or are in need of additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Susan L Burgmaier
Environmental Protection Specialist
SLB\030198.
