Idain Fan Installati <br />The main fan shall be installed on the surface and installed in fire- <br />proof housing and connected to the mine opening with fireproof air <br />ducts. <br />The fan shall be equipped with a pressure-recording gauge and an <br />automatic signal device designed to give an alarm should the fan <br />slow or stop. The signal from this device will be placed so that <br />it will be seen or heard by a responsible person who can hear or <br />• will observe such alarm when men are underground and who will take <br />appropriate action immediately as prescribed in 75.321 or 75.300-3(b), <br />3D CFR 75. <br />In order to protect the main fan from forces coming out of the mine, <br />should an explosion occur, it shall be offset not less than 15 feet <br />from the nearest of the mine openings. The explosion doors or weak <br />wall shall have a cross-sectional area equal to or greater than the <br />connecting entry and shall be in direct line with possible explosive <br />forces. <br />The main fan is powered by an electric motor and shall be provided <br />with a separate power circuit independent of any other mine circuit. <br />The area surrounding the main fan shall be kept free of flammable <br />material for at least 100 feet in all directions. <br />__ -3- <br />
