> -
6. The Eaat end of the Hawk's Nest Mine contains an active spring discharging
at the rate of .5 gallons/minute. The path of the flowing water starts at
the east portal and crosses a road culvert into a drainage ditch. The
ditch is heavily rip-rapped for 50 feet and then stops. The water leaves
the ditch and flows across the reclaimed slope (15 degree slope) into the
~ North Fork. Some significant gullies have formed into the reclaimed area
(J j/Pf (this area contains no topsoil). After discussing this problem with Susan
1 Burgmaier and running the drainage through SedCad, the problem appears to
Z~ ~/Pf be more than the spring. The 10-year event is 51.52 cfs, the 25-year
/ ~'f.(P event ie 78 cfs and the 100-year event is 122.5 cfs. These gullies are
29 Ma~ probably a result of the natural drainage through the culvert. The
,~p(NS ~,~ ~uoh' question is 1) should we do anything 2)should we reconstruct the lower 350
/` feet of the reclaimed area to account for a drainage ditch and/or 3)
f~yP~,[[.~~P~k should we use the geomat or rip-rap. To keep the pond, or to not keep the pond....that is the question.... Any
thoughts??? Refuse Pile- If we need to do any work at the refuse pile, we might be
tight on money. I'm counting on Delta County to reclaim the pile, as they
have stated. I'm still not sure how we can do this when the area is not
incorporated in their CD. Something to think about.....
9. In order to access the topsoil pile, we have to cross the railroad tracks.
Knowing the railroad, they will want a separate insurance policy (they
told me at one time a policy is needed if any work is done within 20 feet
of the tracks). Can we avoid this?. This will also be a factor when we
pull the pond. I don't need any mor gray hairs.P~t fonP (OR al,P i~ b~Gbo•t~
~PS' Edo y/o• (C U..~~M - {eef o-f ROt ..
10. Until the bid is out and we have a contractor,
O ~ I only need to see the site once a month for partial and complete
inspections. During this time where I only do inspections, I would like
to use the normal travel money rather than dip into the Hawk's Neat
reclamation fund. Please let me know what you think about this.
I will be at Hawk's Nest on July 1 to meet Miner's Inc. for the final inspection.
If you want to look at this area and see the job that Miners did, this may be the
best time. Let me know what you think about the items mentioned above.
c:\hawk\940614
