carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides from vehicle exhaust as well as radon from the waste rock
and ore stockpiles as well as ventilation exhaust fans. The most intense disturbance should be of
short duration during clearing of the waste rock and ore stockpiles and the mine development
activities. Dust from loading ore and waste rock would contribute to emissions as well as the
dispersion effects of wind and storm systems. Dust resulting from mining operations would
represent an incremental increase in particulate matter that is described as low and long term.
Preferred Action Alternative -With the inclusion of the Best Management Practices such as
seeding and dust abatement, this project would represent an incremental increase in fugitive dust
over the life of the mine. After reclamation of the site there would be low to no increase in
fugitive dust over the long term.
No Action Altemative -There would be no impacts to air quality as a result of this project
AREAS OF CRITICAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN
Affected Environment: No Areas of Critical Environmental Concem have been identified
in the project area.
Environmental Consequences/Mitigation
Proposed Action -There would be no impacts to Areas of Critical Environmental Concem.
Preferred Action Alternative -There would be no impacts to Areas of Critical Environmental
Concem.
No Action Alternative -There would be no impacts to Areas of Critical Environmental Concern
CULTURAL RESOURCES
Affected Environment: Human groups have inhabited the area during the past 10,000 to
12,000 years. They are characterized as Paleo-Indian huttters of big game; Archaic small game
hunters and gatherers; and Formative, sedentary agriculturalists and proto-historic hunters and
gatherers. The area has been disturbed by previous mining operations. in the vicinity of the
proposed action there are exploration drill holes, naturally reclaimed drill roads and a vent shafr
Environmental Consequences/Mitigation
Proposed Action - Class I and Class I[I inventories for cultural resources of the mine site were
conducted in January, 2006. No sites were found. There would be no effect on cultural
resources. No known sacred sites or traditional cultural properties would be effected by the
project. However, new information that may be discovered would not be protected.
Preferred Action Altemative -With the inclusion of the Best Management Practices for cultural
resources, any new information or sites discovered would be reported to the BLM and would be
protected or mitigated.
No Action Altemative -There would be no impacts to cultural resources.
