The planned and presently designated area for excess waste disposal area
at the Newlin Creek Mine site will be aced as temporary storage and as a long-
term disposal site when the backfilling of the surface pits is completed. The
abandoned mines are located on land controlled by G.E.C. Minerals and are
planned to be reclaimed in the near future.
Preliminary estimates of the available volumes of the waste storage within the
Orphan and the North Orphan is projected as 30,000 cu. yds. and 386,254 cu.
yds., respectively. These backfilling plans are intended to interface and be
generally compatible with G.E.C. Minerals' final reclamation plans of Orphan
and North Orphan surface mines.
Harrison-Peltron will transport material to the site by using a portion of
county road 92, an established G.E.C. haul road, county road 15, and developed
access into the :Orphan pit. 'Navel to the disposal site could reach a peak of
nine to eleven trucks per day but will probably average two to four trips
daily. Harrison-Peltron currently plans to use a 25 ton capacity off-highway
truck, however, on-highway type equipment is also being considered. The
trucks will be directly loaded by a radial stacker or by a relatively small
front-end loader at the mine site.
The material will then be deposited and placed into the Orphan pit with
approximately four (4) to six (6) foot lifts where oprationally practical. In
areas which safe operating procedures can hot be maintained, the material will
be end-dumped until horizontal lifts may be placed. Movement of backfill
material from Newlin Creek Mine to the Orphan Pit is currently projected to be
completed by the end of September 1982 at an average rate of 50 to '100 cu.yds.
