This work is authorized under Perini[ Number: 199675325, issued on
February 12, 1997. An inspection of the site was made on Apri123, 1999. Present were John
Almy, Forest Hydrologist; Jeff Cameron, Forest Fisheries Biologist; Ron Jablonski, Acting
District Ranger; Craie Grother, District Wildlife and Watershed Staff; David Ballode. President
of Telluride Gravel; and Nick Mezei, Corps of Engineers Representative. After a field review of
the work performed last November and December we agreed that the following additional
actions would still be performed.
I. The Forest Service will orange for willows to be planted along the terrace that has
been constructed below the confluence is order to provide a better visual indicator of the
ordinary high water line. In addition these willows will provide some stability to the
bank.
2. The Forest Service will be seeding the site in the near future and we still plan to
proceed with the introduction of wetland plants at the off channel wetland site that was
created during final grading.
3. Telluride Gravel will do some additional earthwork to complete site restoration where
the dike existed.
4. The Forest will be doing noxious weed convol to prevent their establishment on
disturbed sites.
During the course of the review the CORPS expressed some concern about two scarps located on
the steep slope to the west of the confluence. It was suggested that some rock work at the base
of these erosional features might be beneficial. The original plans and permit indicates that these
features were never identified for treatment. A review of historical photographs suggests that
these features are part of the dynamic geomorphic processes at work in the valley. The evidence
of this can be seen in looking immediately downstream, where the banks have revealed back to a
stable angle of repose. We can expect this same process to occur until the scarp has moved up
W!s ~~
Caring for the land and Serving People ."M.. "" n...v~.a v.o..
