V. I{ydrologic Balance - Rules 2.04.5, 2.04.7, 2.05.3, 2.05.6(3) and
~~65
A. Surface Water
The surface water monitoring program required for the North
Thompson Creek Mine has been scaled down due to total reclamation
of the entire site and lack of mining activity. The flumes that
were placed in North and Middle Thompson Creek have been removed
and the areas reclaimed. Grab sampling for quality is now done at
sites upstream and downstream on North Thompson Creek. Flow
measurements are no longer required since the flumes have been
removed. The North Thompson Creek sites are analyzed for total
dissolved solids, pH, calcium, iron, manganese, sulfate, total
suspended solids, bicarbonate, chloride, magnesium, sodium, and
zinc.
B. Ground Water
The ground water monitoring program required for the reclaimed site
includes Wells D-lA and D-2A at the refuse disposal area. These
wells are sampled quarterly for level and field pH, conductivity
and temperature. The No. 3 Mine discharge is analyzed on a weekly
basis for flow rate, pH, conductivity, temperature, total suspended
solids, total dissolved solids, total iron and total cadmium. The
No. 1 Mine site now discharges to a series of 2 treatment ponds.
The operator is required to sample the discharge once a year for
the same parameters analyzed at the North Thompson Creek surface
water site.
Stipulation No. 1 to the original permit required the drilling of
monitoring wells within the No. 3 Mine for additional monitoring.
This stipulation has been previously satisfied and is no longer in
force.
VI. Alluvial Valley Floors - Rules 2.06.8 and 4.24
This section remains applicable to the permit. However, the
load-out area has been reclaimed in the 1987 season. The
reclamation plan for the area was followed and topsoil replacement
depths were verified.
VII. Water Rights and Replacement - Rules 2.04.7(3), 2.05.6(3)(a)(ii)
an
This section of the Findings remains valid for the permit.
-4-
