INFORMgTION
EXHIBIT 8
The pr•~~posed nrininq area is l~~cated in the Lane Tr•ep Creek basin.
This basin is a plains type oP drainage area encilrnpassinU a
typical long narrow basin. The proposed mining oper•ati~~n is
located off-channel from Lone Tree Creek. and will not impact the
flows in the Creek.
Gr•oundwater^ was Hilt encountered in any drill holes during
testing. The operation is designed to be a dr•y mine with nc.
gr•~~undwater• exposed. Ther•efilr•e, -there wi 11 be nil impacts on the
gr•eundwater or• surriluntl inq wells. The accompanying Exhibit
indicates the locatiiln ~~P wells in the area. Most wells arse
located upstream of the mining thus even fur`ther` red~.+cinq the
likel iho~~d of wells being affected.
The proposed operation is designed to Ieave a protective berm
between the mine area and Lone Tree Cr^eek. This will minimize
potent idl impacts Yrom floodwater enter•ino the nrl ninq area.
There will be several cuts made in the berm at points shown on
Exhibit C. These cuts are made til allow surface tlr•ainape to
discharge fr-~~m the mine site during heavy st~~r•ms. Historically,
nra~or• surface dr•ainaoe left the area as sheet Plilw to l~~cal
gullies and swales. It will nilw be directed t~~ these discharge
points. This is not expected to have any significant impact on
the flew ch ar•acter•ist ics.~ of the Creek. The cuts thr•.-+trgh the 6er•m
will be r`eseetletl and pr•iltected by channel ar•nrilr`ing. In add itiorr
silme er•~~siiln cent rill nreasur•es such as st akina straw bales across
the channel invert to contain sediment from minilr• st~~r`nr events
wi I 1 be d~~ne.
Water usage at the mine site will be cilnfined til dust contr•oi,
minor nrilistur•e losses in mined material, and water used in
c~~ncr•ete batch inq and asdhalt batch inq plants. There will be no
evaporative losses because nil groundwater will be exposed. Table
G-1 tabulates the expected water losses in the ilper•at i~~n.
Moist ur•e loss fr•onr st ockpi ies is est irnat ed t=t•om an annual
production rate ilf cp+O,IZ+00 tons ~~f three-duar•ter• inch plus
mat er•ial. This mat er•ial would have appr•~~x innately a ih moisture
content. Nor•nrai ly a 4Y- value is used f~~r• sands and finer
material, but moisture retent lon is much less on large rock.
Dust strbpressiiln is based on application of 5,00@ gallons of
water` daily fur an approximately 100 day period each year.
G - 1
