This concern was withdrawn in the 5 December
letter.
In the 5 December letter, The Corley Company also brought to the Division's attention apre-law waste
pile above the Southfield facilities azea. Dischazge from that pile could potentially result in deposition
of black material into Magpie Creek. The Division confirmed that the pile is a pre-law disturbance that
is not included in the bond release application or Southfield Mine's reclamation liability.
On 24 December 2002 the Division responded in writing to all of The Corley Company letters
Correspondence from Linda Saunders, K2T LLC, (part of the Vento Group) was dated 9 November, 14
November and 10 December 2002 (addressed to EFCI). In her 9 November letter Ms. Saunders
requested confirmation regarding the cover depths at the reclaimed portal azea and at the reclaimed
refuse pile. Ms. Saunders also questioned whether there was positive drainage in the collection ditch
Southfield Mine Permit No. C-1981-014
SL-2 Findings 6 25 April 2003
