What must be emphasized here however is that the shrubs
established on the 25 acres of live topsoil are the result of only one
growing season. It is impossible to forecast what the shrub density ~oill
be in 10 years.
At the present time we have 298,204 LCY of topsoil stockpiled. This
is equal to an average topsoil depth of 17 inches over 130 acres. Thus
approximately 40% of the future areas to be reclaimed will not be with
live topsoil.
To date 130 acres of land has been reclaimed. Forty acres of this
was seeded in the fall of 1982. Therefore a total of 90 acres has been
evaluated for shrub density with an overall average of 150 shrubs/acre.
Based on job to date shrub density. results Yampa Mining Co. proposes
a shrub density goal of 150/shrubs/acre. Yampa Mining Co. also nroposes
to conduct yearly shrub density measurements and will report these to
the division annually.
