Cottony
r•~ , Division Director
'/%'~(/J Natual Resource Trustee
From: Harry Pose
Re: SPLP results review: Cotter Corpora ' n, JD-6 (M-1977-319), JD- 8 (1984-014) and JD-9
(M-1977-306) Mines
Background: This memo assesses the results of SPLP tests on waste rock samples that aze purported by
Cotter to be representative of the above captioned operations. The results were presented in Cotter's letter
received by the Division on June 28, 2005. Provided these samples are truly representative, then as DMG
staff and Cotter agreed, the tests results maybe applied to waste rock at the JD-6, JD-8 and JD-9 as the
company has represented that the mines aze geographically close and mining will occur within the same
geological formations. We understand that SPLP test results for ore samples will be forthcoming. The
following discussion and Table 1 provides guidelines for the company to consider in evaluating to what
extent any release of contaminants from these facilities might affect water quality. If higher SPLP results
appeaz from the ore samples, Cotter should consider those sepazately.
SPLP Results for 3D Mines: The following SPLP results from waste rock exceed certain applicable
water quality parameters.
Table 1.
