Describe Type of Project - Highwall muting and related activities. Highwall mining and related
operations will occur following completiomof recovery of'suiface-mineable coal and will involve
the following sequential acnvities:
• Prepazadon of final surface mine bench area(s) £or set-up and operation of highwall
mining equipment (may include clean-up and leveling of bench area(s) scaling and
stabilization of highwall to dislodge any loose rocks, and face prepazation in mining azea)
• Set-up of highwail miner and associated surface support equipment consisting of self-
propelled, remote-controlled cutter head unit, crawler-mounted control cab and power
P Y g P ~-------- ..
- - unit,-arid $elt take=u -and conve oz dischai e towers, which would o ~€iat~fiom eztistin
mine benches in the &nal highwall areas
• Development of underground en**ies and concurrent coal recovery
• Direct coal loading to haulage units or temporary on-bench stockpiling and transfer to
haulage units, with coal haulage to Hayden Power Station
• Removal of highwall mining equipment following completion of highwall mining
operations '
~ Reclamation of surface mined aeeas consistent with approved mining and reclamation
plans
In addition to and in conjunction with these and the related surface mining and reclamation
activities, SCC -also conducts ongoing road inspection and maintenance, dust control,
sedimentation structure inspection and maintenance, and environmental monitoring activities for
all active mining areas.
2. Locationand Tvpe of On-Site Facilities/Structures - No additional strucrures or faci]ties will be
required for the proposed highwall mining operations.
3. Ac~ea2e and Location of all Disturbed Areas -The proposed highwall mining and related
activities will occur within areas previously disturbed by approved surface mining operations.
Supplemental recovery of additional coal reserves by highwall mining methods will occur in the
areas shown on Figure 2, Seneca IIW Highwall Mining -Existing Conditions and Proposed
Mining Activities. Figure 2 shows existing conditions and mining disturbance in surrounding
areas, the extent of proposed highwall mining operations, and all mining-related structures and
facilities.
IP.V'llSuxuCMCe.~y \jwiNUe Prm+~AJi (Cny.NP A.uImn/
10/I!/61 e/w
