3
All parcels except one which Greg checked had average depths of
more than the required 12 inches. Parcel E-A-84 had only 9.75",
based on two holes (10 and 9.5"). Greg's results on parcels where
Trapper supplied "field data" were more variable than on any other
plots. If anyone feels there is a need to do more field
verification on range land, I recommend .it be done on parcels where
Trapper has "field data".
On five of the six parcels, Greg's results indicate more topsoil
than Trapper had estimated. On one of the six parcels, Greg's
results indicate less topsoil than Trapper had estimated (9.75" vs
12").
Based on Greg's result's, I think DMG should rely on Trapper's
"field data" estimates from past years for parcels where DMG has
not independently verified replacement depths. If problems with
revegetation are evident on any parcels where topsoil depths have
not been independently verified, DMG should investigate that parcel
more closely. Otherwise, we should find that Trapper replaced
topsoil on these parcels as required by their permit. DMG should
attempt to independently verify replaced depths on all parcels
during each year in the future.
No Data
Greg dug 42 holes in 14 parcels representing 357.9 acres where
Trapper had no available data. These were all of the parcels where
no data was available.
Avg Depth 15.3" (9.5" to 24.75")
Std Dev 4.8"
Range 7.0" to 31"
13 of the 14 parcels had more than the required 12 " of topsoil.
One parcel (E-A-96) had only 9.75" of topsoil, based on two holes
(9.5" and 10"). This parcel only contains 12.2 acres.
Based on Greg's results, I recommend we find that Trapper has
replaced topsoil on these parcels, as required by their permit.
cc: Greg Bacon
David Berry
C:\wp51\072596
