~~
Range Lang Reclamation
Trapper is supposed to repl
Trapper provided estimates of
was collected in one of thre
"field data", and 3.) no data
2
ace 12" of topsoil on range land.
replaced topsoil depths to DMG. Data
e ways; 1.) scraper load counts, 2.)
available. Greg's topsoil sampling
In these areas is summarized below.
Load Counts
Greg duq 27 holes in 11 parcels, representing 627.3 acres (1 hole
per 23 acres).
Avq Depth 19.2" (13.5" to 30")
Std Dev 7.9"
Range 9.5" to 51"
All parcels Greg checked had average depths of more than the
required 12 inches. On eight of the eleven parcels, Greg's results
indicate more topsoil than Trapper had estimated. On three of the
eleven parcels, Greg's results indicate less topsoil than Trapper
had estimated. These later discrepancies were relatively minor
(13.5" vs 16.7", 14" vs 16.7" and 16" vs 16.4"), and occur in areas
which appear to have more than the required 12 inches of topsoil.
It's worth noting that Trapper estimated only one parcel had less
than 12" of topsoil. They estimated parcel C-B-89 had 9.3". Greg
found 17.3" on that parcel (12, 17, and 23" holes).
Based on Greg's result's, i think DMG should rely on Trapper's load
count estimates from past years for parcels where DMG has not
independently verified replacement depths. If problems with
revegetation are evident on any parcels where topsoil depths have
not been independently verified, DMG should investigate that parcel
more closely. Otherwise, we should find that Trapper replaced
topsoil on these parcels as required by their permit. DMG should
attempt to independently verify replaced depths on all parcels
during each year in the future.
"Field Data"
Greg dug 19 holes in 6 parcels, representing 197.3 acres (1 hole
per l0 acres).
Avg Depth 18.6" (9.75" to 32")
Std Dev 9.9"
Range 9.5" to 45"
