a
Overall, the vegetation on the reclaimed site was in very good
shape. Due to the unusually wet summer, the grasses were still
green and growing. Few if any forbs were present. There may
have been more forbs present earlier in the year. Based on the
condition of the grasses at the time of our sampling, I would say
the vegetative cover was probably as high as at any time this
summer. The cool season grasses appeared to be putting on new
growth at the time. A few had even put out seed heads for a second
time this year. Warm season grasses (in the reference area) were
in seed at the time we sampled.
It should be noted that no warm season grasses appear in our cover
data for the mine site although there are three in the seed mix.
A fe~~i specimens of Blue and Side-oats grams were observed. It is
probably to early to say whether these species will become
established on the site during the liability period. Other species
in the seed mix which were observed but, did not appear in the
cover data were Streambank wheatgrass, Cicer milkvetch, Rubber
rabbitbrush and Winterfat.
c:\wp51\1r93c
.. ~ '. .. i~n..a a__•V Jam.:'.. ~'L' ~ .'4.%`-
m~...'.~i3YYYeH~, ibai.r.:Y`.FY...-!~~ _ y wi('. -- .~ ~ a~ _.. ~a--. .. ~ M 4x. ~~~` .' . r.
