Facility Name:
Facility #
D.M.G. Permit:
Tellier Pit
COG-500350
98-058
S.W.M.P. Administrator: Art Morrissey
Plan Updated: September 9, 1999

Location: NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 17, Township 6 North, Range
85 West, of the 6th P.M., Routt County, Colorado
Receiving Waters: Wetlands and intermittent stream to Yampa River
1.0 Site Description
The site is located approximately one half mile south of Highway 40 on Routt County Road #33a.
The county road provides access to the northeast corner of the 40-acre property. Near the entrance
to the county road is the Tellier residence and associated outbuildings. There is a gas line and
associated easement that runs from west to east. There will be no disturbance of the easement from
the mining operation. The property generally slopes from the east and west boundaries towards an
intermittent stream running from south to north. The stormwater and process water (dewatering)
from the Phase I mining area is discharged to a wetland area immediately northwest of the property.
The Phase II mining area stormwater and process water (dewatering) will be discharged into the
intermittent stream that exits the north end of the property. Water from the intermittent stream and
wetlands eventually flows into the Yampa River.
2.0 Description of Operation
The site is being developed for aggregate mining and processing. The mining area is approximately
25 acres located on the west side of the intermittent stream. There will be additional disturbance of
less than 1 acre for the haul road. Mining will occur in two phases due to the natural gas line; Phase
I north of the gas line and Phase II south of the gas line. The smaller northern area (Phase I) will
be mined first with mining and concurrent reclamation continuing in the southern area (Phase II).
This will be a dry mining operation that will necessitate a dewatering trench around each area. This
operation will produce approximately 80,000 tons of material per year.
Crushing and Screening facilities will be located on site. There are currently no plans for an asphalt
plant, concrete batch plant or wash plant at the site. A scale and small-scale building are proposed
near the entrance to Routt County Road #33a, on the north side of the haul road.
3.0 Site Drainage
The entire site originally drained towards the intermittent stream that runs from south to north. To
the east of the stream the only new disturbance will be from the haul road. stormwater will drain in
ditches on either side of the road to sediment ponds prior to entering the intermittent stream. On the
west side of the site two separate pit areas will be excavated. The northem Phase I mining area has
stormwater collected in a dewatering trench that discharges to a sediment pond located at the
northwest portion of the property. The Phase II mining area stormwater will be collected in a
dewatering trench and discharged to a sediment pond prior to entering the intermittent stream.
