RECLAMATION -The reclamation plan calls for returning the disturbed areas, after mining and reclamation, to
a land use that is wildlife habitat, general agriculture, indoor and outdoor storage. These land uses are
consistent with those found in the surrounding area and are depicted on the accompanying Reclamation Plan
Maps.
The post mining land use call for the ultimate development of five separate and distinct uses:
1. The creation of a 3.3 acre pond.
2. Re-grading and planting of the westerly river bank adjacent to the dredged area.
3. Planting of 2-irrigated alfalfa fields.
4. Dry land planting of the staging area for use as outdoor storage. Together with the
maintaining the two buildings for future uses.
5. Bank stabilization and planting of the river adjacent to the pond area.
Since the pond area will be mined at 3h:1v slopes, grading and sloping efforts for reclamation are non-existent.
The first step in the process, which will begin immediately upon the completion of the mineral extraction, will be:
topsoil replacement on the inside slopes to the water level in the pond. Topsoil will be replaced to a thickness
of at least 14 inches, which is appropriate to establish vegetation communities consistent with the post mine
land use. Topsail will be obtained from the nearby stockpile area west of the excavation. Once the seed bed
has been prepared, seeding will then take place on approximately 1.4 acres on the inside slopes to the water
surtace and the top of the pond area. A seed mixture consisting of six native grass and forts is selected to for
the disturbed areas in and around the pond with specie consistent with the post mine land use. In order to
enhance the wildlife habitat opportunities, an additional seed moc is selected for an area extending at least ten
feet from the water level upward. The ma consists of a diversity of grasses, sedges, and reeds. This will
encourage 'wvettand" type plant near the waters edge. Since the seeded areas are small, seeding will be
accomplished by broadcasting
Approximately 1,400 feet of the existing river bank along the west side of the dredged area will be regraded
from it's near vertical slope to a new 2h:1v slope. This slope will extend approximately 20 feet below the
elevation of the top of bank. A minimum of 50 Cottonwood saplings 5 to 30 inches long will be planted along
the regraded portion of the river bank in random locations. Additionally, a least 25 cottonwood trees, with a 2
inch caliper, will be planted at select locations along the bank.
Two separate areas within the reclamation plan include the planting of irrigated afalfa fields which will be
extensions of existing pasture areas. A 1.0 acre area nearthe pond and will be planted in alfalfa atthe same
time as the reclamation efforts in and around the pond area. The second field consists of 4.4 acres within part
of the initial staging area. Seeding will be accomplished by drilling and certified weed-free mulch will be
crimped into the soil. Due to the characteristics of the soil, fertilizer will be applied.
Approximately 10 acres of the initial staging area will be seeded and mulched with three types of "dry land"
grasses. Since the storage yard is generally "flat" in nature, drill seeding methods will be used.
As part of the construction efforts for bank protection and the jetty along the river, during the initial stages of
the mining activities, re-vegetation of the bank slopes was included. This effort included planting of Cottonwood
saplings and trees described above. In orderto promote wildlife habitat and erosion control the area was also
seeded with herbaceous seed moc covered with an Excelsior wood fiber blanket.
.~
USE ~
~~
IN AC. ,_
u~
OF TOTAL
Pond Area 4.4 12.6
Re raded River Bank 1.6 4.6
Alfalfa Fields 5.4 15.5
Indoor8OutdoorSto a 10.0 28.8
Bank Armorin 0.6 1.7
No Chan a 12.8 36.8
