These structures present a <br />significant hazard to the public due to the possibility that <br />individuals could climb upon, and subsequently fall from, <br />these elevated features. Demolition and removal of these <br />unattended structures in accordance with the approved <br />reclamation plan would eliminate this hazard. <br />(d) The Roadside Mine Portals exhibit exposed roof and rib <br />areas located between the permanent portal seals and the <br />surface. These portals are within 1,000 feet of Interstate <br />Highway 70. The exposed roof and rib areas occur to an <br />approximate distance of 50 linear feet, and present a rockfall <br />hazard to members of the public who might enter the unsecured <br />portal area. Correct and permanent reclamation, including <br />backfilling to the surface, would eliminate this hazard. <br />(e) Large highwall features exist at the site, which present a <br />significant hazard to public safety. Proper reclamation of <br />the highwall features will eliminate the hazard. <br />(f) Disturbed area drainage is occurring at the site, both in <br />the form of underground mine drainage and precipitation- <br />related surface area runoff. Site maintenance and final <br />reclamation must occur to ensure that untreated disturbed area <br />drainage does not enter the Colorado River. <br />7 <br />
