Box 310 <br />San Luis, Colorado 81152 <br />Dear Mr. Dodson: <br />Thank you for providing Industrial Compliance (IC) with the opportunity to assist you in <br />evaluating the cause of death of the two specimens received by our office on April 13, 1992. <br />One duck (specimen # 1) and one coot (specimen # 2) were placed on ice in a plastic cooler <br />at the site and delivered to the Battle Mountain Gold Company office in Englewood, <br />Colorado. Upon transfer to IC, the specimens were immediately transported to the Colorado <br />State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory for necropsy, cyanide levels, and heavy <br />metal determinations. <br />SPECII~ZEN # 1 <br />Gross Patholoev <br />Specimen # 1 was found to be in extremely poor body condition. Advanced decomposition <br />was evident upon gross examination indicating that death had occurred several days prior to <br />discovery. <br />HistoQathology <br />The heart, liver, kidney and lungs were examined.
