NPDES Discharge Sites
Four NPDES discharge points associated with sediment ponds are currently
being monitored:
NPDES Pond Watershed
002 Wadge Little Grassy Creek
003 Shop Little Grassy Creek
004 004 Cow Camp Creek
008 008 Bond Creek
NPDES discharge site 008 replaced 007, which was mined through.
NPDES sites are sampled for the following parameters at the
following frequencies:
Parameter Weekly Monthly Quarterly 3X Year
Flow X
Temperature X
pH X
Conductivity X
Oil and Grease X
Total Suspended Solids X
Total Settable Solids X
Total Iron X
Total Dissolved Solids X
Salinity X
Parameters listed in
Table 7-47 X
A copy of the NPDES permit issued to Peabody for the Seneca II Mine is located
in Attachment 7-5 of the permit application. In addition, the 45 parameters
listed in Table 7-47, found on pages 7-167 and 7-168 of the permit
application, are sampled three times a year: Prior to peak runoff, after peak
runoff and during the base flow period.
Stream Water Monitoring Sites
The Seneca II Mine monitors the eight stream locations listed below:
Stream Water Site
Drainage Location
SW-S2-1 Upper Grassy Creek
SW-S2-2 Lower Grassy Creek
SW-S2-5 Upper Little Grassy Creek
SW-S2-6 Upper Cow Camp Creek
SW-S2-10 Lower Cow Camp Creek
SW-S2-11 Fish Creek above
Cow Camp Creek
SW-S2-12 Lower Bond Creek
SW-S2-13 Fish Creek below
Bond Creek
-17-
