permit application. The operator obtained the proper permits from the Division
of Mines. The proposed operation plan was reviewed by the Division's
geotechnical expert and no problems were noted.
Mining operations have ceased at the mine site. No use of explosives will occur
during this permit term.
VII. Backfilling and Grading
The applicant previously provided information on Backfilling and grading in
permit sections 2.05.3(6), 2.05.4(a), 2.05.4(2)(a), 2.05.4.2(c). Backfilling and
grading was to have been continuous throughout the permit term. The pit area
was regraded to approximate original contour. There was to have been one
temporary stockpile of spoil material from the initial boxcut. The applicant
provided sufficient analyses to demonstrate that the reclaimed surface would
meet the stability requirements of Rule 4.14.2(1)(b).
Backfilling and grading was accomplished in the spring and summer of 1993.
Approximate original contours were re-established. Phase I bond release was
approved by the Division December 14, 1993. Slopes were measured by the
Division and averaged 5.4H:1 V, with a range of 4.7H:1 V to 6.3H:1 V. The
approved reclamation plan requires regraded slopes to be no steeper than
4H:1 V.
VIII. Revegetation
Details regarding revegetation are found in Section 2.05.4(2xe) of the permit.
During the midterm review conducted by the Division in February 1993, the
Division found the original seed mix insufficient to achieve the reclamation
diversity standard. The Division proposed an alternate seed mix that was
adopted by the operator. The following approved seed mix was seeded in late
fall 1993:
SEED MIX IN POUNDS OF PURE LIVE SEED PER ACRE
16
