The surface water information can be found on pages 78-104 of
Volume 8; Pond Appendix of Volume 3 of the 1981 application; and as
amended in 2.04.5 and 2.04.7 of the permit revision. The information has
been reviewed and found to be in compliance with the requirements of this
section.
B. Ground Water
For a description of the ground water hydrology of the mine area and
permit revision area and a discussion of the impacts of mining on ground
water, please refer to the Regional Geology and Ground Water Hydrology
portion of Section IX, Probable Hydrologic Consequences and Cumulative
Impact Assessment of this document.
Ground water information can be found on pages 55-77 of Section 2.04 of
Volume 8, pages 126-163 of Section 2. U5 of Volume 8A, and in the ground
water Appendix of Volume 2 of the 1981 application; and in Sections
2.04.5 and 2.04.7 of the permit ammendment. ALLUVIAL VALLEY FLOURS (2:06:8, 4.24)
The discussion of alluvial valley floors can be found on pages 15-23,
Section 2.06, Volume 8A and AVF Nppendix of the 1981 application;
Alluvial Valley Floor Phase I study, September 7, 1982; Alluvial Valley
Floor Phase II study - October 8, 1982; and as revised in Section 2.06 of
the Permit Revision application.
Identification of Alluvial Valley Floors
The general area in which the Orchard Valley mine is situated contains
several deposits of alluvium. These alluvial deposits are made up of 3
types of alluvium: 1) Flood-plain alluvium (Qal) along the North Fork of
the Gunnison River; 2) Valley-fill deposits (Qvf) along a portion of
Stevens Gulch; and 3) Alluvial gravels (Qag) divided into 3 age
categories (younyer (Qagy), middle (Qagm) and older (Qago)). These
deposits are located along the North Fork Valley side slopes.
The applicant has identified three areas within or adjacent to the
proposed life of mine area which may meet the geomorphic criteria of
alluvial valley floors. Alluvial deposits were identified in the Morrell
Cow Camp area which is tributary to Terror Creek, along Stevens Gulch and
along the North Fork of the Gunnison River.
