Species included in the 40 per acre transplant mixture for
the mine site will be aspen, Colorado current, willow, shrubby cinque-
foil, raspberry, elderberry and kinnikinnic. Species comprising the
40 per acze transplant mixture at the mill site will be aspen, willow,
shrubby cinquefoil, leafy cinquefoil, sagebrush, rabbitbrush, elder-
berry, gooseberry, serviceberry, raspberry, strawberry and kinnikinnic.
9.B EERTZLIZER
A 20-20-10 (N-P-K).fertilizer is applied at a ra-~e of 100
pounds per acre when a disturbance is initially seeded with grass.
Subsequent "maintenance" fertilizer, 33-0-0 (N-P-K), is adcied to
established vegetation at the rate of 100 pounds per acre Fier year,
the frequency determined by the quality of the growth medit¢n.
On a rocky subsoil such as a road cut or borrow Fait, exper-
fence has shown ghat 100 pounds per acre of NH4NO3 applied late in the
first season of growth, followed by 100 pounds the second, third and
fifth seasons yields a self-sustaining vegetative stand quite com-
patible with the surrounding landscape. Too much fertilizer produces
a lush golf course type of effect. The new vegetation is kept slightly
starved to blend with the slightly starved natural vegetation.
Sewage sludge, in combination with wood chips, has proven to
be an excellent source of nutrient for grasses and trees planted on
rock waste at the exhausted Urad Mine (AMAX), and, if a1~ail.sble, will
be used as much as possible dining regetation of disturbance>_s at
Henderson. \
9-5
