Revege.tation of the mine site entails the following pro-
cedures (in the approximate sequence).
1. Dismantle buildings
2. F:ip and bury pavement
3. Haul and spread wood chips (20 tons/acre)
4. Apply P205 fertilizer
5. Mix into the surface
6. Haul and spread sewage sludge (30 tons/acre)
7. Seed with grass seed
8. Plant seedlings and transplants (2nd season)
9. Maintenance fertilize once, 5 years from
establislvnent.
Experience at '7rad indicates that this process will provide
a soil which will perpetuate a stand of vegetation without the need of
further maintenance.
Revegetation to open forest will proceed yearly as facili-
ties are dismantled and :salvaged. Reclamation of the site is expected
to take six years, after which the vegetation will be maintenance
fertilized one time, in phase, about the fifth year following estab-
lishment. Surety releasf>_ will be requested in phase, five years from
establishment. By the year 2017, all vegetation at the mine site is
expected to be self-sustaining.
Vent Shaft (2)
All construction facilities at the vent-raise site (2) were
dismantled and removed arrd the area was graded and revegetated in
1975. At mine closure, t:he exhaust collar (Figure 6-12) will be
removed and the shaft sealed. Essentially no additional disturbance
9-11
