From data collected on plant coverage, a diversity <br />index was worked out for each plot. The Shannon-Weaver Function <br />index of diversity was used (Shannon, C. and W. Weaver, 1973). <br />Rncn7}c <br />Cover. The percent cover and relative cover for shrubs, forbs, <br />and grasses is shown in Table 2. Mean total cover on soil X8 was <br />97.3%, and 105.6$ on soil 70. A t-test was run on these values and <br />subtotals of plant form total coverage (Table 3). No significant <br />difference was found. <br />Production. The total production for shrubs, forbs, and grasses <br />is shown in Table 2. Mean production on soil XB was 84.7 g/m <br />(755.7 lbs/acre) and 96.9 g/m2 (864.5 lbs/acre) on soil 70. A t-test <br />was run on these values and subtotals of plant form coverage (Table 3). <br />No significant difference was found. <br />Diversity. Both soils types had similar diversity indices <br />(1.26 for soil X8 and 1.28 for soil 70). <br />Table 2.
