S , i. '3
•
2. Milling Facility - Adding the mill facility to the
operation will place the operator in amore stringent category
of permitting requirements due to the use of hazardous
chemicals in the milling process. The operator will also
probably need to obtain a discharge permit for any process
water leaving the site, and will need to obtain other Health
Dept. permits such as a Stormwater Permit and an Air Emissions
Permit (rock crusher to be used on site). Any disposal of
mill tailings or development waste on the surface will involve
fairly stringent design, installation, maintenance and
reclamation requirements.
3. Postmining Land Use - The new operator has indicated
verbally that he may propose to leave all buildings on site
after final reclamation. To do this, the operator will need
to provide our Division with reasonable assurance that the
buildings will likely be used after mining for industrial,
commercial, or residential purposes, that such use is
compatible with the overall postmining land use selected for
the site, and that such a use is acceptable to La Plata County
Government. Any input the County can provide our Division in
this regard would be of great benefit. The current permit
contains no provision for leaving any structures on site.
More information regarding the details of the amended operation
will be available once I receive a copy of the application from our
Denver office. Please contact me at 247-5062 if you need any
additional information.
Sin rely,
Tom Gillis
Environmental Protection Specialist
/tdg
2
