seeps will be unrelated to and unaffected by the flow of groundwater from the West Pit. The
groundwater dischazging to the Rito Seco as a consequence of installation of the slurry wall
' would consist of diverted upland water. Figure 3 presents an interpretation of the steady-
state potentiometric surface in the Rito Seco alluvial aquifer following installation of the
' slurry wall.
4.0 CONSTRUCTION CONSIDERATIONS
' A staging area of approximately 100 feet by 100 feet will be required for she slurry wall
construction equipment laydown. This azea will be provided within the West I'it.
' Construction of the slurry wall will require leveling of an area along the prop~~sed alignment
approximately 50 feet wide for purposes of providing a slurry mixing zone prior to installing
' the material into the trench. This will require a total azea of leveling of approximately 1.9
acres, and may include minor regrading, removal of shrubs and a few trees. Any and all
' utilities along the proposed alignment will first be located with a small backhoe prior to
trenching. The above ground extension of piezometer PW-2, located as shoHn on Figure 1,
' will be cut down to allow excavator access without damaging the piezometer.
' The installation of the slurry wall will include keying the slurry into the underlying
competent material, either the Santa Fe Formation or the Precambrian bedro~;k. Maximum
' extent of the excavator shall be used in the unlikely event no competent material is
encountered. The alluvial material removed from the trench during excavation will be
' stockpiled for berming purposes for operation of the BMP, or will be incorporated as final
reclamation fill at the mill azea, pazking ditch, or tailings disposal azea.
The BMP pipeline crosses the proposed trench alignment and the BMP will be temporarily
' plugged on either end of the trench during construction. Following construction, the pipeline
will be re-connected.
' Temporary erosion control measures such as straw bales and/or silt fences v/ill be used as
necessary during construction to minimize surface erosion. Safety meas Tres including
signage and flagging personnel will be used along construction sites approaching the Rito
' Bollle A1oun(ain Resources. /nc.
