Ann Tatum
March 18,1986
Pape 3
the northwaat corner of the room, there Is a crack that extends from just above the floor up
to the cslling. This crack lan't continuous because about 6.1 /2 feet high It ends, offsets and
restarts about 16 Inches out on the well, than diagonally moves up, meeting the wall again
about 8-1/2 feet high, then extending up the comer to tfie ceiling. About 2 feet below the
ceiling, this crack has 1/8'to 3/18' dlaplacement. Where the crack extends diagonally across
the wall, there are a sarlea of en-echelon cracks, each about 6" to 8" long, again with
displacement of about 118" to 3J8". looking at the crack, the sense is that thfl outer well,
which Is the north wall. has rotated outward relative to the north-south interior wall.
At the fireplace at the northeast corner, there Is a relatively fresh crack that extends up and
abuts the north wall end then along the canter of the flue in the very northeast corner. This
crack has about 1 /8" to 3/18' dlaplacement. There ere indicetians of cracks of previous
vintage immediately around the fireplace hearth itself, but these are not through going cracks,
but era more locallted around the hearth, At the aoutheest corner of the room adjacent to the
front porch door there are a aeries of an-echelon cracks that vertically extend from about 5
feet high up to the ceiling. Maximum dlaplacement here is about 118", but these look
relatively fresh and have cut through the rocent painting. I see no indication of previous
repairs or patches at this location.
In the second floor hallway there Is a vertloal crack at the northeast corner of about 118"
displacement. In the bathroom at the southwest corner of the second floor, there is a
slgnificent vertical crack extending top to bottom of the southeast corner of the room, with
a maximum outward displaCemertt of 114" to 3J8". There Is a diagonal crack extending
southerly upward from the top south Corner of the small window in the west room of the
bathroom. This crack doaa not go to the cslling, but goes about 2 feet with an overall angle
of about 60 dagrsaa from the horizontal. There are minor plaster cracks in the other walls.
In the aitting room at the southeast Corner of the second floor, there has been eMensive
damage to the south well due to water leakage through crncka in the roof. This has caused
the plaster on the south wall to badly daterlorote. Several large patches of 1 to 2 square feet
have apflled off. There are a series of radial cracks in the plaster with up to 1 /2" displacement
that radiate away from the cslling about 2-1/2 feet went of the southeast corner, which
appears to be the focus of the leak. There is a crack with 1/4" displacement in the northeast
corner. The sense of the dlapleCSment Is front welt out, or east wall to the east. Thera is a
closet in the east end of the north well. A similar crack is found et the rear of the closet, with
3/8" to 112" displacement On the crack. At the ceiling, the plaster wall is pulling away tram
the wood ceiling boards. It le evident that the front wall has moved outward relative to the
house.
In the bedroom that occupies the north part of the second floor, there is a substantial
continuous crack, floor to calling, st the aoutheest corner which is immediately contiguous to
the area previously noted, but across the stalrcaas. This crack has about. 3116" to 114"
dlaplacement. Ai the molding at the floor, there is 1 /8" to 1 /4"displacement across the room,
where the front wall has moved outward. This cracking is also manifested at the northeast
comer of the room with through-going cracks extending floor to ceiling with about 1!8" to
e,popontzsoteueote."wn •-
