Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
On !December 2005 the Division sent out a letter (attached) detailing the new vegetation Rule
changes, which became effective on 30 November 2006. Item 3 of this letter discussed the new
requirement under Rule 4.15.1(5) for a weed control plan for each mine site. Rule 4.15.1(5)
states the following:
Each operator shall submit a weed management plan that will become part ofthe permit
requirements. Species to be considered shall be noxious weeds as set forth in the permit.
The plan shall also address invasion of other weed species that seriously threaten the
continued development of desired vegetation. Weed control methods shall also be used
whenever the inhabitation of the disturbed area by weeds threatens further spread of
weeds to nearby areas.
The 1 December 2005 letter requested that, if a plan was already not in the permit, one be
submitted in the form of a Minor Revision by I March 2006. A review of the Colowyo Mine
permit has shown that there is no weed control plan in place. While the Colowyo Mine does have
an aggressive weed control program, it is not detailed in the permit.
As requested in the 1 December 2005 letter, please submit a Minor Revision detailing Colowyo's
weed control plan by I March 2006. Please contact me if you have any questions or need any
additional information.
Sincerely,
James R.
