iii iiiiiiiiiiiu iii
The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company
November 18, 1993
Mr. Wallace H. Erickson
Reclamation Specialist
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street -Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Reclamation of Coal Loadout Facilities
Permit No. C-82-055
Dear Mr. Erickson:
Pa~l1 e.
Co rre;o o»slc. cc

~~c~,122 ~i99.i
r
The Santa Fe Railway does object to revegetation at the reference location.
These areas are work areas and will be used as such in the future for our operations.
As industrial sites these areas are continually used and vegetation will hinder
operations.
Additionally, we object to drainage control different from that desired by our
local personnel at Trinidad. Our representative at Trinidad has reviewed the site
with Landmark Reclamation and Energy Fuels representatives and we have advised
them how we want drainage controlled and grading completed. That is, for drainage
directed north to a culvert which carries drainage off site.
The sumps were not a problem as long as the coal loading facility was in place.
However the use will change during our operations, such as storage, access, and
others, and the sumps/ditches will impede travel, limit storage of materials, and
generally disrupt our day to day operations. Additionally, the drainage desired by us
will be consistent with drainage throughout our Trinidad operations on similar sites.
The reference sites, reclaimed to our original use will be no different from
those areas that have never been permitted by the State for coal loading use or any
other use. We appreciate the reclamation efforts and strongly urge the State to
cooperate with us and allow reclamation consistent with our needs and desires.
Please contact me if you have questions.
Sincerely,
Fred Sparks
Assistant Superintendent
cc: Mr. Mark Kerr
4901 S. Windermere Street
Littleton, CO 80120
A Santa Fe /nduslr~es Company
