h. WASTES, HAZARDOUS OR SOLID
• No hazardous wastes are used during the coal
mining process. Solid human wastes are
processed through two septic tanks and a leach
field as part of the surface facilities at the
mine. Other solid waste (trash) is picked up
regularly by trash disposal businesses and
disposed of in an appropriate manner.
Therefore, there are no identified direct,
indirect or cumulative impact.
i. WATER QUALITY (Drinking/Ground)
No direct, indirect or cumulative impacts have
S been identified.
j. WETLANDS/RIPARIAN ZONES
No direct, indirect or cumulative impacts have
been identified.
k. WILD AND SCENIC RIVER
Leasing of the proposed tract will not impact
• any Wild and Scenic River.
1. WILDERNESS
The proposed lease area is not located within
or near any identified wilderness or
wilderness study areas.
2. Soils
Direct Impacts- Since no active surface disturbance
is proposed, no soil impacts would result from this
action. Subsidence could occur, which could result
in some low-volume, localized soil erosion.
Indirect Impacts- No impacts have been identified.
Cumulative Impacts- At the time that support
pillars are removed, a cumulative impact from
subsidence could occur throughout the mined area.
State regulations require the company to conduct
operations in such a manner as to control or
prevent effects of subsidence (see Section 3
following).
• 11
