$IVER, HENRICH & NEWRERRY
L. D. $IVER, THE GEOLOGY OF TAE ASPEN, COLO., ORE DEPOSITS II, 9rj ENGINEERING
& MINING JOURNAL 212 ( 1888) .
This is a continuation of Siver's general description of the
Aspen district, with comments concerning similar deposits in
Leadville, Red Cliff, Kokomo, and Fremont Pass.
General discussion of exposures and SmuaQler ores, p. 212.
"Bold" exposures of "Archean," Cambrian, "Silurian," and
Lower Carboniferous rocks [occur on Smuggler mountain].
Extensive sulfide ore deposits [are contained within these
rocks]. "The railroads have rendered the mines of Smuggler
mountain extensive shippers of a $40 ore, considered low
grade."
C. HENRICH, NOTES OF THE GEOLOGY AND ON $OME OF THE MINES OP ASPEN MGUNTAIN,
PITKIN CG., CGLG., 17 AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF MINING ENGINEERS
TRANSACTIONS 156-206 (1889).
Henrich's paper presents an early history, general
geological report, and detailed description of Aspen
mountain mines. The author was a major technical witness
for the "sideliners" in the apex lawsuits. Henrich
concludes that there is no relationship between silver and
lead content in ores, and that the ores are discontinuous,
occurring only at intersections of faults and favorable
sedimentary rocks, not as a continuous "contact" vein."
J. S. NEWBERRY, NOTES ON THE GEOLOGY OF TAE ASPEN MINING DISTRICT (COLORADO),
18 AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF MINING ENGINEERS TRANSACTIONS 273-278
(1890).
" This was the crux of the apex suits; see HYMAN MEMOIRS, Part IV,
post p. 65, and GLOSSARY.
Bruce A. Collins - 12 - BIBLIOGRAPHY
