BRUNTON, SIVER PAPERS <br />ft, in the J.C. Johnson shaft. The strata are not <br />replicated by folding on Smuggler "Hill" as they are on <br />Aspen mountain. The formations on Smuggler "Hill" are <br />obscured by 100 ft. of glacial drift, p. 64. <br />D. W. BRUNTGN, ASPEN MOUNTAIN: ITS ORES AND THEIR MODE OF OCCURRENCE, 46 <br />ENGINEERING b MINING JOURNAL 22-23 (JUly 14, 1886). <br />The first of two articles by Brunton on the Aspen mining <br />district for Engineering & Mining Journal, with emphasis on <br />Aspen mountain geology and operations. Brunton recognized <br />three phases of faulting. <br />D. w. $RUNTON, ASPEN MOUNTAIN: ITS ~RE$ ~ THEIR MODE OF OCCURRENCE, 46 <br />ENGINEERING 6 MINING JOURNAL 42-45 (JUly 21, 1888). <br />The second of Brunton's articles on the Aspen mining <br />district. Further details of the geology are presented, <br />together with a discussion of ore composition and <br />deposition. Again the emphasis is on Aspen mountain, <br />although operations on Smuggler mountain are mentioned <br />relative to litigation involving the Spar, Washington, Emma <br />and Aspen mines (on Aspen mountain) - "Energetic <br />prospecting, however, soon developed the fact that these <br />mines were not Aspen and to-day Smuggler mountain <br />rivals Aspen mountain in the amount of its output " <br />(p. 45). Brunton further describes apparent fault control <br />of ore deposition. <br />L. D.
