PUBLIC NOTICE <br />INTENT TO TERMINATE UNDERGROUND INJECTION CONTROL PERMTT <br />Issued to: NATURAL SODA INC. <br />The purpose of this notice is to solicit public comment on the proposal by the Region VIII <br />Ground Water Program office of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to terminate <br />UIC Permit No. CO30870-00000, issued to Natural Soda Inc. on February 1, 2000, that <br />authorized the construction and operation of a Class III injection well solution mining facility at <br />the Rock School Lease, Rio Blanco County, Colorado. <br />On May 24, 1999, the EPA received an Underground Injection Control (iJIC) Permit <br />application from AmerAlia, Inc. seeking a UIC Permit authorizing injection well solution mining <br />of nahcolite at the Rock School Lease, Rio Blanco County, Colorado. A Draft Permit was <br />prepared and issued for Public comment on August 16, 2000, and a Public Hearing was held on <br />September 28, 2000 at the Rio Blanco County Courthouse in Meeker, Colorado. On December <br />20, 2000, the EPA received notice from Roger Day, President and CEO of Natural Soda, Inc, <br />notifying the EPA that AmerAlia intended to transfer "the operation of the mine to Natural Soda, <br />Inc., a subsidiary of AmerAlia, Inc." On February 1, 2001, the EPA issued Final Area Permit <br />No. CO30870-00000 to Natural Soda, Inc. <br />Public comment on this decision will be accepted for a period of thirty (30) days after <br />publication of this notice. Comments and any request for a public hearing should be made in <br />writing, and must state the nature of the issues proposed to be raised at the hearing. A public <br />hearing will beheld only if significant interest is shown. Written comments should be mailed to: <br />Mr. D. The final decision maybe to terminate the Permit. <br />The final decision shall become effective thirty (30) days after the decision is issued unless no <br />commenters requested a change of decision, in which case the decision shall become effective <br />immediately upon issuance. <br />Within thirty (30) days after the decision has been issued, any person who filed comments <br />or participated in a public hearing may petition the Administrator to review the decision. <br />Commenters aze referred to 40 CFR Sections 124.15 through 124.20 for procedural requirements <br />of this appeal process. <br /> <br />Date of Publication <br />
