M-1 egg , O5'/ /~ <br />RE: UIC Permit <br />~BC ~~~ Permrttee Re <br />f/ Solution Mir <br />Deaz Mr. Day: <br />it To Cancel UIC Permit for <br />of Nahcolite, Rock School Lease, <br />On January 24, 2003, the Region VIII Ground Water Program offices of the <br />Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) received your request to cancel Underground Injection <br />Control (UIC) Program Permit C030870-00000. EPA understands that, according to your letter, <br />no construction activity relating to this UIC permit took place at the Rock School [sodium <br />minerals] Lease and that no UIC activity is intended in the fixture at this site. EPA also <br />understands that, according to your letter, Natural Soda intends to cancel the bond required under <br />Part II Section F of the Permit that demonstrates that Natural Soda, Inc. maintains continuous <br />financial responsibility and resources to close, plug and abandon injection wells authorized by <br />this Permit. EPA fixrther understands that, according to your letter, Natural Soda intends to <br />maintain the sodium lease with the BLM and that ground water monitoring will continue on a <br />reduced schedule using the existing ground water monitoring wells. <br />On May 24, 1999, the Region VIII Ground Water Program offices of the Environmental <br />Protection Agency (EPA) received an Underground Injection Control (iJIC) Pemut application <br />from AmerAlia, Inc. seeking a UIC Permit authorizing Class III injection well solution mining of <br />nahcolite at the Rock School Lease, Rio Blanco County, Colorado. A Draft Permit was prepazed <br />and issued for Public comments on August 16, 2000, and a Public Hearing on the Draft Permit . <br />was held on September 28, 2000 at the Rio Blanco County Courthouse in Meeker, Colorado.
