I consider the design to be nearly complete, and have a good start on the permitting process. The concept drawing, which included the West Valley Fill exactly as presented in your draft report, was sent out August 6. It has been received by you and others, including Steve Westbay of Gunnison County and Dave Berry of the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. On August 19, I will meet with Steve Westbay in Gunnison to discuss the concept drawing on an informal basis as a preliminary to submission of the required Gunnison County Land Use Change. On August 28, we have scheduled a site visit for Dave Berry and Jim Pendleton of the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. During that site visit, I would like to have all the participants (engineering, permitting, construction, and operations) available to discuss the project, and be able to reach a mutual understanding prior to submission of the required Technical or Permit Revision to the DMG Mining Permit. WESTEC, Inc., as the detailed design engineer should plan on sending a representative. Attached for your information is a copq of a memorandum from me to Steve Swartzendruber, Office Manager for Sanborn Creek Mine, dated August 6. The memorandum, with back-up, forms the basis for a request for funding to complete the design and permitting of the West Valley Fill. I anticipate the authorization for expenditures to be approved in the next week.
