•
EDNA MINE--1992 EROSION INVENTORY REPORT
Plan are constructed. However, an inventory was conducted on selected slopes
within this area and information has voluntarily been included in this report.
This information may be utilized in the future in assessing the efFectiveness of the
reconstruction plan.
Moffat Area
The areas where topdressing has been replaced on the southern end in the Moffat
Area were inventoried. Topdressing in this area has been recently replaced, with
revegetation operations in various ongoing stages. There were no concentrated
flow erosion features identified in this area. Assessment of erosion condition
classes using the BLM method were not undertaken, since revegetation opera-
tions are ongoing and such an evaluation would be premature.
South-of--Shop
The narrow strip across the westerly facing slope in the South-of--Shop Area that
remains under bond was inventoried. A single concentrated flow feature was
surveyed and the slope itself was broken into three subareas with the erosion
condition class being evaluated. The results are presented categorically below.
Concentrated Flow Feature No. 1
•
Concentrated Flow Feature No. 1 is located in a swale (Exhibit 1) which runs from
the northeast to the southwest. Runoff through this feature enters from and exits
to reclaimed lands that have been released from bond. The runoff channel flows
into a large depression that was formed as a result of the mass slide that occurred
in 1984. This feature appears to be reasonably stable in its current condition.
Therefore, monitoring over time to assess its stability has been chosen as the
prudent method for feature evaluation.
To accomplish this 5 permanent cross-sections have been established to measure
the depth and area of the feature (Exhibit 2). The cross-sections are numbered
from top to bottom and are spaced at 40 foot intervals. Average channel gradients
between the stations, measured with a Brunton compass, are as follows:
Station Interval
Station 1 to Station 2
Station 2 to Station 3
Station 3 to Station 4
Station 4 to Station 5
Slope Anele Slope Percent
8 degrees 50 minutes 15.5
6 degrees 40 minutes 11.7
11 degrees 30 minutes 20.3
40 degrees 00 minutes 83.9
.
