_ ~(~-
The proposed seed mir. as listed above does not appear to be adequate to
achieve revegetation success. A nitrogen fixing legume should be added
to the seed mix. Tlie Division suggests either Cicer milkvetch, Astragalus
cicer, at a rate of .5 lbs PLS/acres or Utah sweetclover, Hedysanim
boreale sp, utahensis, at a rate of 1 lb PLS/acre. Also, when hand broad-
casting methods are used, [he seeding rate should be doubled. Therefore,
tJie following stipulation 'is necessary.
Stipulation No. 11
THE PROPOSED SEED PSIX AND SEEDING RATES AfUST B£
APPLICANT AND APPROVED BY THE DIVISION PitIOR TO
ANY SURFACE COAL PIIPJING AND RECLNIATLOiJ OPERATIi
NEW PERPIIT AREA. A NITROGEN FIXING LECUPIG P1UST
SEED t1IX APIll THE PROPOSED SEEDING RATE FOR HAND
SPECIFIED.
REVISED BY THE
INITIATION OF
)NS WITHIN ~1'HE
BE ADDED TO THE
BROADCAST SEEDING
A loose hay or straw mulch is proposed at a rate of 4,600 pounds per acre.
Experience with high winds at the Pryor sites seems [o show that drill seeding
except on steep slopes keep slopes in a much preferred method of seeding
than hand broadcasting. Also because of the high winds, the mulch should
be crimped into .the soil surface providing for much better seed and moisture
retention for revegetation. Therefore the following stipulation is
necessary:
Stipulation No. 12
THF. Therefore the
following stipulation in necessary:
. .aL,~,. . ' . _
