length of approximately 250 feet. Three slope angle measurements were taken with a
Brunton compass level, on a baseline bearing 270°. Measurements were taken
approximately 100 feet apart. All three slope angle measurements were 15.0° and thus
were all gentler than the approved maximum reclaimed slope angle of 18.43°.
The slope at the western edge had an eastern aspect, a vertical slope length of
approximately ten feet, and a horizontal length of approximately 100 feet. One slope
angle measurement of 16° was taken, which was gentler than the approved maximum
reclaimed slope angle of 18.43°.
B. Office/Parking Lot Area
This area consisted of a disturbance of approximately 30,000 squaze feet in extent. It
was comprised of two regraded slopes situated immediately adjacent to each other, with
one slope situated immediately north of the other. The grade of the southern slope was
gentler than the grade of the northern slope, as it was the site of the former mine office
building and parking lot. Both slopes had northern aspects.
The tce of the southern slope forms the crest of the northern slope. The northern slope
is part of the south bank of the east-west oriented refuse collection ditch, built at the
base of the refuse pile that lies to the north of the ditch.
The northern slope measured approximately 200 feet by 80 feet. The southern slope
measured approximately 450 feet by 30 feet. Both slopes had their shorter vertical
(downslope) axes oriented north-south, and their longer horizontal axes oriented east-
west.
A 300-foot tape was extended in an east-west direction near the southern edge of the
southern regraded slope. Slope measurements of both the northern and southern slopes
were taken along bearings shot north (perpendicular) from the tape, at points 50 feet
apart along the tape. Seven slope angle measurements were taken on each of the two
slopes, using a Brunton compass level and a £ve-foot measuring stick. For the
southern slope, these were 4.0°, 3.5°, 2.0°, -1.0°, 1.0°, 0.5°, and 0.5°. For the
northern slope, these were 4.0°, 11.5°, 13.5°, 11.0°, 10.5°, 10.0°, and 13.0°. All
14 measurements indicated that the regraded slope angles had been constructed gentler
than the maximum approved regraded angle of 18.43°.
C. South-Facing.Siope of Refuse Collection Ditch
This area consisted of a disturbance of approximately 9000 square feet in extent. It
consisted of a single regraded slope with a southern aspect. Its shorter, vertical
(downslope) axis was oriented in a north-south direction, with its longer, horizontal
axis oriented east-west. The horizontal axis was approximately 150 feet in length, and
the vertical approximately 40 feet.
A 300-foot tape was extended along the longer east-west axis, with four slope angle
measurements taken every 50 feet. These four measurements were 10.0°, 11.0°,
3
