JERLS A. DANIELSON, DEPUTY STAT>: ENGINEER
t:::' ~,,..r

SUBJECT: DELTA SAND 6 GRAVEL PIT #3, DELTA ^OUNT$, APPLICATION
FOR MINING AND RECLAMATION PERh'!I;
As requested by your office, we have reviewed the application for a
gravel operation at the conflsence of Minnesota Creek and the North
Fork of the Gunnison River near Paonia. This area is so critically
short of water that the Division of Water Resources presently denies
all permits for tributary wells upstream from Hotchkiss. The proposed
mining operation could add approximately one acre of surfaoe area to
an existing 2.6 acre lake. Evaporation losses from the one-acre
surface would amount to only 2 to 2.5 acre-feet per year, but even
this small amount should be replaced. We, therefore, recommend
approval of the operation with the condition that, if the Stage 3 area
is developed, evaporation losses~wlll be replaced.
ti. ~ M 1~~~1t~t
A.
