Dept. of Natural Resources
Sandy Emrich and Anne Baldrige were at the Edna Mine last
Thursday, Feb. 23,1984, for an inspection. A few matters were dis-
cussed which I would like to bring to your attention.
The first item concerns problem H 83-6 from previous inspection
reports. This problem specified cleaning Tipple Ponds #1 and A2 of
sediment before Jan. 1, 1984, and confirm that adequate storage
volume exists. As I pointed out during your Jan. 27th inspection
tour, the ponds were cleaned prior to the Jan. 1st deadline and
adequate storage volume was confirmed in the 4th quarter 1983 sediment
pond inspection report. However, your inspection report failed to
mention this problem being corrected. Will you see to it that problem
X83-6 is noted as resolved in Sandy's inspection report.
The second matter pertains to the Mine's request for Life of the
Mine bond release. P$M's public notice of bond release has appeared
in the Steamboat Pilot for four succesive weeks. Enclosed is proof
of that publication. Also included, per Sandy's request, is a list
of individuals and organizations which were mailed bond release
notification. The public comment period will conclude in mid March
and I understand the Division has 30 days thereafter to reach a
decision concerning bond release.
Finally, the issue of grazing reclaimed areas at the Edna Mine
remains unresolved. Last autumn, MLRD believed unauthorized grazing
was a serious problem and suggested PF,M meet with the Division to
discuss the matter. PF,M agreed and has made several attempts to
schedule such a meeting only to have your office postpone and defer
the requests. P$M believes this issue requires prompt attention,
especially since another grazing season will soon be started.
Gult
A SUBSIDIARY OF GULF OIL COPORATION TELEPHONE 0031 ]3&8111
